"Paris Hilton" getting ready to have some fun with the boys.
I really enjoyed tonight’s episode, but not for the usual reasons. It was one of our less serious episodes and it was a nice break from the constant turmoil that the apocalypse brings on. I wasn’t too keen on Paris Hilton being on the show, but then once I realized it was a House of Wax type episode, I knew why they had her make a cameo. House of Wax was one of my favorite horror movies (and not just because Jared was in it…let’s face it, he got axed pretty early on in the film) so it was kind of nice that they made that connection. I loved the part when Jensen said, “I’ve never even seen ‘House of Wax’” and they panned in on Jared’s face, lol. It was awesome.
The ending was what I needed. I’ve been waiting for Dean to say sorry to Sam for a while. For what I didn’t really know, but there’s only so much of Dean’s machismo I can take. I love the man, but sometimes I feel really sorry for Sam. When Dean said, “I broke the first seal,” and Sam said, “But you didn’t know,” and Dean said, “Neither did you,” it was Dean’s realization that Sam wasn’t in his right mind and his willpower was pretty much shot due to his “addiction.” I’m not mad at Sam for “starting the apocalypse,” and I’m glad that Dean is getting over his anger as well.
What I really wanted to bring up though was Sam’s guilt. In the scene where Sam walks in on Dean and Bobby’s conversation, he says something like, “You will never give me as much guilt as I give myself.” (Feel free to correct me with the right line.) Out of all people, you’d think Dean would be a little more sympathetic after what he did in Hell. However I suppose the situations are different as Dean didn’t “betray” Sam when he went to Hell. He actually sacrificed himself for him. So I can see both sides of the fence.
Letting Sam drive the Impala at the end was a little too much cheese for me, but at the same time I’m glad Sam is finally getting his day. It’d be nice to see Sam making some of the decisions in the future. And to have Dean agree to his idea to face what’s directly in front of them was great. And let me back up to last week’s episode. If Zach’s glimpse into the future was indeed the future that would occur if Dean doesn’t become Michael’s meatsuit, then we can assume that future occurred because Dean was making all of the decisions. We can also assume it occurred because the boys never reunited. We are lead to believe that the only option for the boys is the future-glimpse Zach showed them or the boys becoming meatsuits. Neither option has the boys working together. So I think Dean letting Sam make some of the decisions is his realization that maybe he (alone) isn’t what is best for the world. I don’t think Sam is off that leash yet, but I see Dean’s pride diminishing bit by bit. He doesn’t want to full out give in to Zach, but he doesn’t want the future-glimpse either. A big reason why he doesn’t want that future-glimpse is because Sam is not alive in it. Dean is actively trying to alter that future and at the same time he’s mending his relationship with Sam. Everybody wins? Let’s hope.
Now I’m not too happy about the fact that the next episodes will be coming “soon.” Why not next weeek?! The previews were great though. I can’t wait.
